We are Self Health Advocates!

We build alliances with individuals, community leaders, organizations and small businesses to support our dedicated Self-Health Advocates who are determined to rid the world of diabetes and obesity. DESMA has taken a grass root approach to helping people; help themselves. By building Partnerships Programs that promote collaboration with just about everyone; we can do what it takes to prevent diabetes for everyone.   


We work in the community, with the community, for the community to provide Hope, Education & Resources, through, Diabetes Prevention Classes, Self Management Consultation and Healthy Living Counseling.  We are excited about coming to your church or organization to have a Candid Conversation about your Health today!

Community Liaison

 

Our Community Liaison is the front -line public health worker who is a trusted member of the community.  She has a personal understanding of the community we serve. This trusting relationship enables the Community Liaison to serve as a link between health, social services and the community.  


Our mission is to build individual and community capacity by increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support and advocacy. DESMA is here to build partnerships with you.

On a personal note, Phyliss' passion is to assist individuals with overall  health and wellness improvement. She is a dynamic motivational speaker and advocate for personal self health improvement.

DESMA was developed with Women in mind but our Educational Classes and information work for every one.  If you want to prevent Diabetes we want to help you.

We offer comprehensive solutions to women and girls to assist them in their fight to PREVENT diabetes and obesity. There are open public CLASSES, WORKSHOPS, GROUP MEETINGS & INDIVIDUAL LEARNING SESSIONS for anyone who want to  benefit.

MISSION

  

To Prevent Diabetes as well as Improve the quality of life for women and girls affected by pre-diabetes, Type II Diabetes and Obesity. 




  •  Diabetes can cause serious health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, and eye and foot problems. Pre-diabetes also can cause health problems. The good news is that type 2 diabetes can be delayed or even prevented. The longer you have diabetes, the more likely you are to develop health problems, so delaying diabetes by even a few years will benefit your health. You can help prevent or delay type 2 diabetes by losing a modest amount of weight by following a reduced-calorie eating plan and being physically active most days of the week.

  • About 1 in 3 Americans has pre-diabetes, according to recent diabetes statistics  from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. You won’t know if you have pre-diabetes unless you are tested.
